My paintings reflect a very personal form of creative expression and reveal the way I interpret things artistically.
And, they are always abstract.   I find working in an abstract manner is the most authentic & honest form of artistic
expression for myself.

The painting process is mainly about problem solving and manipulating visual space on the canvas.  Overall, this
is an extremely challenging process, as it is quite difficult to develop a structured painting while also retaining a
spontaneous and purely expressive nature.  That incredibly frustrating, yet highly rewarding creative challenge is
one of the reasons I love to paint!

Inspiration comes mainly from my surroundings and the things that I see every day…these visual imprints translate
into my work in an abstract way.  These elements might show up as a color, texture, or shape…more of an essence
or loose expression, not as a literal interpretation.

Living with all of the natural beauty here in the South; the endless trees, big sky, clear waters, beautiful flowers & foliage,
and shadowed woods, has definitely found its way into my work, and been a significant influence in my painting.

As an artist, I am always trying to connect on various levels with the person viewing my art. This is why I am constantly
experimenting with scale, color, shape, and movement in my paintings.  These elements, and how they are used, create
a different response & reaction in each viewer...and that response is such a big part of the whole art experience and what
I’m working to cultivate.

I am very drawn to producing large-scale pieces.  To me, a “life-size” painting creates a greater impression or impact on a
viewer in a way that a smaller work would never be able to replicate.  Again, the scale makes you feel the art in a more
powerful way.

In my new series, Modern Organic, I am composing paintings with very exaggerated shapes and saturated colors, combined
with large areas of white space and minimal compositional elements.  Bigger, bolder, yet simplified.   They have a different
feel than my other paintings…more of a true organic sense, and with a greater importance placed on the visual flow
& movement in the work.
